RCIA Formation Program August 2010

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)

We will begin our next RCIA series on August 24, 2010. This is an opportunity for adults (either baptized or not) to look at the teachings of the Catholic Church as they decide if they want to become members, and also for any adult Catholic that wants to complete their Sacraments of Initiation; Holy Eucharist and/or Confirmation. The series of discussions and presentations will be presented in a 14 week format on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 PM. During these meetings we work through the complete book entitled, “The United States Catholic Catechism for Adults”. This book was published in 2006 by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and is a very pastoral approach to help one understand the teachings and the precepts of the Church. You will be asked to read the chapters that will be presented at the next session and to bring your questions to the meeting. We present each candidate with a copy of the Catechism and a Scripture Workbook for each of the Sunday’s readings. (This is at no cost to the candidate.)

We also meet on Sunday morning. The Sunday meeting begins at the 11:15 AM Mass. The candidates will listen to the scripture readings of the day along with the homily, and then they will be formally escorted out of church by one of the RCIA team members, as they gather to discuss what they have heard in the Scripture readings, and how God spoke to them through the Scripture of the day. We call this “Breaking Open the Word”. This session concludes about the same time that the Mass ends.

The first meeting on August 24th at 730 PM in the Church Library is an informational meeting. Its purpose is to answer specific questions regarding RCIA and to document information about each of the candidates, to receive your books and your homework assignments, and a detailed calendar of the program.

Our team of Catechists have a great deal of experience in helping people fully understand the Catholic Church and how it is a major tool in bringing people closer in their relationship with God through Jesus Christ. We look forward to serving you through this process. If you have any questions or concerns that you would like to discuss prior to the August 24th information meeting, please contact me at: 770 207-1540 or  bjindrich@windstream.net

Blessings,
Deacon Bill Jindrich & The RCIA Team
